Honeymoon in Nice

Following our wedding we flew to Nice (in the south of France) for our honeymoon.  We wanted to go somewhere where we could relax and enjoy the sun and beach – Nice was the perfect place.  Flights within Europe are surprisingly cheap...it cost about $300 for a return flight to Nice from Paris for two people, so there wasn’t much to worry about on that end.  However, I absolutely hated dragging my wedding dress from airport to airport...a disaster in the making.
We stayed at Le Meridien hotel.  It was a nice hotel right on the Promenade des Anglais.  Here was our view from the hotel room:

The weather was perfect our entire stay in Nice – perfect for the beach (if not a little on the warmer side).  Beaches in Nice are different from the ones we have here in Canada...there was no sand on the beach...it was mostly rock.  The entire Promenade has a beach along its length, but only portions of the beach are open to the public.  The rest of the beach is privately owned, and you have to pay to have access to it...and at a steep price.  At Le Meridien, there was a private beach for this hotel at a rate of 18 euros per person per day. This included a towel, umbrella and beach chair. It was nice to have the beach chair and umbrella (particularly with the bright sun and rocky beach), but I thought the charge was a bit hefty.

Here are some pictures of Nice in the daytime:

It is such a beautiful place.  I found it so relaxing just to be able to enjoy the sun and sit on the beach with my newly-wed husband :)
More to come on Nice tomorrow!
