Sophie the Giraffe

This holiday season was the very first time that I have seen a Sophie the Giraffe being sold in Canada -- and I was quite pleased!  In case you are not familiar, Sophie the Giraffe was created in France in 1961. Sophie is a rubber teething toy that squeaks upon compression and is infinitely popular in Europe and around the globe.   Production began on May 25th, St. Sophie's day, which is where Sophie's name came from.  At the time, the only toy animals available were farm or pet animals.  A giraffe was considered exotic next to the standard animals which contributed to Sophie's huge success.

I can't think of a better gift for a new-born or to give at a baby shower than the ever-adorable Sophie the Giraffe.

And for the toxin-conscious mother, you can breathe a sigh of relief as Sophie is made only from natural rubbers from the Hevea tree!

Buy Sophie here.
